Earned Value is not spreading correctly when using the Future Bucket curve.

Problem: Earned Value is not spreading correctly when using the Future Bucket curve.
Fix: Earned Value will not spread against the curve assigned, however, the total Earned Value Cost/Units will be calculated using the manual curve.


For example,


Below are two activities:



  • EV SPREAD – Linear 

  • EV SPREAD - Manual

In the Resource Usage Spreadsheet, the bottom view has the same two activities but notice the ’Linear’ activity has a Linear Curve.  ‘Manual’ Activity has a Manual Curve.  Both have $80.00 budgeted and are 50% complete.


Notice the ‘Manual’ activity has $25.00 of Earned Value Cost while Linear has $40 of Earned Value Cost.


This is because activity ‘Manual’ has a total of 25 units each worth $1 which equals $25.  Also, since the total is 25 units they are spread linearly across the week.
